What is there to do?
Kiwi hosts, Sally & Dave, invite you to come and enjoy Matafonua’s friendly atmosphere and superb location in unspoilt Ha’apai, where Tonga’s traditions and cultures are still part of everyday life.
Kayaks are available for a minimal hireage. We are right on the beach here at Matafonua lodge, so there is easy access to the sea, and plenty of opportunity to paddle over to our beautiful neighbouring islands!
Ha'apai is perfect cycling territory, the islands itself is flat, meaning that a ride through the bush can be managed by everyone. Bikes are also avaliable for hire.
During the months of July - September our neighbours Ha'apai divers can offer a once in a lifetime experience, with small groups given the opportunity to swim with the incredible giants that are humpback whales!
Also courtesy of our neighbours, Ha'apai divers offer a full range of diving experiences, ranging from PADI courses to fun diving around the crystal clear water and stunning reefs of Ha'apai.
We are situated in a wonderful spot for experienced kite-surfing with a large lagoon and channel between the islands. The south-east trades are reasonably constant throughout the year. We do not supply any equipment, so please bring your own kites and boards.
